A Healing Prayer for Relief from Spiritual Suffering
We pray this prayer of the sick knowing that God listens to us at every moment. May he help our loved ones by easing the pain and suffering they endure.
Illness and the hardships of the world may always surround us, but firm faith and daily prayer can give us the strength to face every trial.
Lord,
you know my life and understand my pain.
You have seen my eyes weep,
my face grow sad,
my body burdened by illness,
and my soul pierced by anguish.
You experienced abandonment yourself
as you walked the road to the Cross.
Help me understand your suffering
and through it, the love you have for us.
Teach me that when I unite my pain with yours,
it can become an offering of love for my brothers and sisters.
Help me suffer with patience and even with joy.
If it is not possible for this cup to pass from me, remain close to me.
I pray for everyone who suffers:
for the sick like me, for the poor,
the abandoned, the helpless, and all who receive no affection
or understanding and feel alone.
Lord, I know that you can permit suffering for the greater good of those who love you.
May these afflictions that burden me
purify me, make me more compassionate, transform me,
and draw me closer to you.
