The Memorare Prayer to the Virgin Mary
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your help,
or sought your intercession
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence,
I fly unto you,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To you I come; before you I stand,
sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in your mercy
hear and answer me.
Amen.
Meaning of the Memorare
The Memorare expresses confidence in Mary's intercession. The words “never was it known” do not turn the prayer into an automatic guarantee. They express the hope of someone who approaches the Mother of Jesus and, through her prayers, entrusts a need to God.
Pray it when you are afraid, facing a decision, or interceding for another person. Read each phrase slowly, name your intention, and finally place it in God's hands. Authentic Marian devotion leads to Christ and should move us toward faith, prudence, and charity.
How to pray it
Make the Sign of the Cross, remain silent briefly, and pray the text once with attention. Then consider a concrete response: ask for help, accompany someone, seek reconciliation, or patiently accept what you cannot control.
