Who Was Saint Teresa of the Andes?
Saint Teresa of the Andes (1900-1920) was a young Chilean Discalced Carmelite nun. Born Juana Fernandez Solar in Santiago, Chile, in 1900, she took the religious name Teresa of Jesus.
At age nineteen, Teresa entered the Discalced Carmelite monastery in Los Andes, where she devoted herself to prayer and service. During her short life, she was known for deep faith and love for God and neighbor. Her spiritual writings, especially her letters, continue to inspire many readers.
