Pray Psalm 121
I lift my eyes toward the mountains.
From where will my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
the maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip;
the One who watches over you will not sleep.
Indeed, the guardian of Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you;
the Lord is your shelter at your right hand.
The sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will guard you from every evil;
he will watch over your life.
The Lord will watch over your going out and your coming in,
from this moment and forever.
What Psalm 121 teaches
Psalm 121 is a song of pilgrimage and trust. The worshiper looks toward the mountains and recognizes that help comes not from the landscape or personal strength but from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth. The repeated language of watching and guarding expresses God's constant care.
The psalm does not promise a life without accidents or suffering. It affirms that God accompanies our going out and coming in, sustains hope, and does not abandon his people. It is especially meaningful before a journey, at the beginning of a new season, or during a worried night.
Pray one stanza at a time and name where you need help. Then act prudently: prepare for the road, accept assistance, and offer protection to people who depend on you.
