Psalm 23: A Psalm of David

Meaning of Psalm 23

Psalm 23 is a prayer of trust and hope in God's care and guidance. David describes the Lord as his shepherd and declares that God provides everything he truly needs.

The psalm says that God guides him along right paths for the sake of his name. Even while walking through the darkest valley, he is not afraid because God remains beside him and protects him.

God prepares a table before him in the presence of enemies and anoints his head with oil. His cup overflows, and his future rests securely in the house of the Lord.

Psalm 23 therefore expresses trust in God's provision, presence, guidance, and protection through every circumstance of life.

Psalm 23

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I will lack nothing.

2 He lets me rest in green pastures and leads me beside quiet waters.

3 He restores my soul and guides me along paths of righteousness for the sake of his name.

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff give me courage.

5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6 Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for length of days.
