The Regina Caeli is a Marian prayer honoring the Virgin Mary. This Christian prayer forms the beginning of an ancient hymn to the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is a solemn song that rejoices with Mary in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This prayer replaces the Angelus during the Easter season. It is prescribed in the Roman Breviary from Compline on Holy Saturday through None on the Saturday following Pentecost.
Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia.
For he whom you deserved to bear, alleluia.
Has risen as he said, alleluia.
Pray for us to God, alleluia.
Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.
For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.
Prayer
O God, who gave joy to the world through the Resurrection of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant, we pray, that through his Mother, the Virgin Mary, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
